As the NFL has become more focused on scoring, the quarterback has become the most valuable position on the field. But it hasn’t always been that way.Early in the history of the NFL, the running back was the most valued player on the field. Running backs were the biggest stars in the league. It started in the 1950s with one of the greatest players of all time: Jim Brown.As the league progressed, so did the running backs. The 60s and 70s saw the likes of Gale Sayers, OJ Simpson, Franco Harris, and Earl Campbell.
